Paint shop paints the town

A paint shop in Aarhus exudes so much color that it rubs off on the bikes that are parked nearby.

The colored bikes create life in a cheerless area, and tickle the eye among the boring building fronts. Bicycles in Denmark are so common that people don’t pay them any attention. The colors on the other hand are a great lack in Denmark, so the color at the bikes draws more attention than the bikes. The colored bikes are obviously placed by the paint shop, but still they bring color to our everyday life.

Thanks!

New girl in town

A new girl has arrived in the town of Aarhus, and she is walking in the footsteps of the famous Danish writher Hans Christian Andersen’s paper cuttings.

The Street art is found in Aarhus – far away from our Capital where Andersen lived the most of his life. But these days Aarhus is the City of Fairytales.

Street Art Royal

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is celebrated by street art.

May Enhedslisten (danish left wing party, that's aginst the royal house) preserve me

Each piece has a quote from the Queen’s New Year’s speaches over the years.

Every New Year’s Eve at 6pm our Queen transmits the traditional New Year’s speach that many Danes see as part of their New Year’s Eve traditions.

The speaches are often used to summarize the key events and themes from the past year. She must not, according to the Danish Constitution, interfere with politics, but she is always critical to the way the Danish society is heading. So she does not take any political positions, but still she comments unfortunate trends in Danish society. The New Year’s speaches are always the subject of great public debate, and in that way important in the creating of our national feeling, and repeat the central Danish values; as social responsibility, and open mindednes.

The Royal Street Art is found in Aarhus, and must have been set up as a tribute to the Queen on her 40th anniversary.

Artist: Urban Olsen, Aarhus

It is in the retrospect that the past seems so safely manageable, while the future is full of "if"

At Aarhus main shopping street

also at Aarhus main shopping street

currently it seems as if we have opinions on almost everything in relation to society. Large as well as small

It was the pure evil. A wanted recklessness. In front of Aarhus Art Building

it is typical for us in Denmark, we do not like conflicts

In front of the contemporary art gallery Lunchmoney

Congratulation Queen Margrethe the II of Denmark

A pink worm is consuming the city of Aarhus

A big pink worm has consumed garbage in the city of Aarhus.

The pink worm at the pictures have settled in the second largest Danish city, Aarhus, and it has been observed several places in the city. The worm fling itself along the buildings, and at the first glance it seems friendly and sweet with it’s pink silky skin, but make no mistake, it has big sharp teeth that eats its way through town.

The worm is made of the sustainability agency WorldPerfect as an awareness campaign on the free pickup of bulky refuse, which Aarhus Municipality offers all its citizens. The rubbish is often just placed at the street in the darkness by a unknowing residents who do not know about the arrangement. WorldPerfect them self contacted therefore the municipality with a proposal for this campaign. This campaign about a big pink worm, that eats its way through the city’s bulky refuse, and in a cute way is making awareness about  that big garbage can disappear by itself – if you just order a pickup.

Follow and ‘like’ the project at their facebook group

The official site of the municipal arrangement  www.storeårm.dk – the site is unfortunately in Danish. It informs briefly about the arrangement, and is a easy portal to get the bulky refuse picked up.

Harald Bluetooth anno 2011

The Danish national stone the Jelling Stone from year 965, is considered to be the oldest treatise on how King Harald Bluetooth proclaiming the Danes as Christians.

The stone is from when we Danes raided Europe as Vikings, and it is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A stencil of Jelling stone where King Harald gives them the finger has been set up on top of a roof’s several places that says TAG DEN, which in Danish means both ‘tag on this this’ ‘take this [back home] ‘ and ‘Eat this’

Chewing gum and wodden art

Wooden creativity

The students at Aarhus University has started a chewing gum tree at the university campus. Everyday when they go to lectures, where you not are allowed to have gum, they put their rubber on the same tree.
When you walk past it gives the tree in campus a thoughtful expression …the Students are not allowed to chew gum, so they put it in a place where it where it does not belong; Done in a creative way that only can give an old professor a smiley thought

The heart below is cut into a tree in the old forest at Graasten.

It is many years since the heart was cut, and we can only imagine what has happened with the love ever since.
… this heart has only grown prettier over the years. The way it has grown into the tree bark, and with the little ladybird, it seems almost as an everlasting love story.

Reverse Graffiti -retrospect on a rainy day

Just because it is a rainy day in Denmark, and it is no the time to do street art, I’ll post an old video from early 2010 from a workshop with the British Reverse Graffiti pioneer ‘Moose’.
Moose did a presentation about his work, before we all went out to town and worked reverse with the many different layers grim.

The presentations about urban creativity and Benjamin ‘Moose’s show about his work, was at the Art Academy of Jutland and the cleaning work was different spots in Aarhus.

The workshop was made by Gadekunstdage, in cooperation between British Council, Denmark, Architect school Aarhus and, the youth project the Frontrunners… I was a managing the project.

The face of the organic city

Street art & urban creativity

This street art piece is found at a park (Mølleparken) in Aarhus. The face is an old piece, so it has been allowed to watch out for the park in a couple of years, properly because of the high level of creativity. I wonder what it has seen through the years; the park is mainly used of young people, and a great place for a minor party.

The tree has many faces and in the twilight it’s quit spooky…

Yes, it is winter in Denmark

Danish design -Sculpture of chairs

Danish Design when it is best, functionalism made unfunctional, nearby Enghaveplads in Copenhagen.

The sculpture is made of stacked chairs, and is builds into each other. The sculpture plinth is the top of a shelter from the Second World War, and the chairs are properly designed by the famous Danish designer H.J Wegner. So what was highly functional is now purely artistic and ornamental.

CORRECTION: the real designer of these dining chairs are the Danish architect Kai Kristiansen. Thanks to Anton from Great Dane Furniture for the information.

With Lego Denmark shall be repaired

Aarhus city got repaired with Lego.

At three different construction sites Aarhus got its cracked walls, and missing bricks repaired. Jan Vormann from Berlin, were in Aarhus to do a workshop with us, to shine up the city of Aarhus’ broken surface.

The 130 participants started with a 2hour seminar about street art and urban creativity at Aarhus Art Building. In the end Jan Vormann showed his artworks and how he works with the Lego cracks.

The workshop continued outside to repair the cracks, at three different construction sites around Aarhus city. The construction was finished after about 3hours. The Lego-reparations was the third workshop of the street art project ‘Gadekunstdage’ (Street Art Days). This project  included a workshop with the British Reverse Graffiti pioneer Benjamin ‘Moose’ Curtis, where Aarhus got cleaned up in pictures. The project is made by Gadekunstdage and Center of Urban Art

Street art in Denmark

Street art in Denmark This first blog I’ll show some of the things that have been done in Denmark in the past, and the way the artist are working… And please add comments or show us what you have seen at the streets in Denmark, because obviously I cannot show all of it myself. The streets in Denmark is often used for artistic expression I different ways. My focus will be at the visual con-temporary art that gives the city its dynamic and exchanging urban living.

………..

The creativity is great and there is a large group of very active street artists that express them selves in different ways.

Here is tow examples of the same visual but with different content. The Splash at the left is cut out of a poster wall and the one at the right is paint bombs at a end wall.

There are a lot of street art events in Denmark with national and international street artists.

Here people in the Aarhus is rebuilding their city with Lego. The street art project ‘Gadekunstdage‘ (Street art days) had invited Jan Vormann from Berlin to Aarhus, for doing a workshop with his Dispatchwork. 130 participated in the workshop.

The street art environment in Denmark uses the streets to comment on the way the city and society is thought and used by the inhabits.

This is the world wide street art group Pink Army who have invaded a cable box in Copenhagen, our capital. The camp they are guarding  is made by Flyhouses for the Street Heart Beatsparty.

The street artist Fætter Dub (Cussin Dub) have made this paste up of a little boy who cut not wait any more. It is a stencil on paper, which have been pasted up with a mix of flower and hot water. The the pic is form the street art website gadentaler.dk (the speech of the street)
